Narrow street lined with old stone buildings in Stone Town, Zanzibar

    Our Story

Spice Island Fire. East African Pride.

    The Spark

It started not just as an idea, but as a craving. A question whispered in the bustling alleyways of Stone Town: What if the world's most addictive fried chicken could be reborn, infused with the soul of Zanzibar? We imagined a flavor that was both new and deeply familiar. A taste that would honor the legacy of the Spice Islands while creating a legend of its own. That spark became Pili Pili Fried Chicken.

    The Heritage

Pili Pili was born in Zanzibar. From the spice markets of Stone Town to the street food of Dar es Salaam, East Africa already had the flavor. We set out to build a brand that belongs here, not an import. A tribute to the cooks, traders and storytellers who made these islands a crossroads of flavor.

    The Craft

This is where the magic happens. Every piece of Pili Pili chicken is a testament to our obsession with quality. We begin by marinating our chicken in a proprietary blend of Zanzibar's finest spices, with the fiery pili pili pepper (our namesake) at its heart. It's then hand-breaded, pressure-fried to lock in the juices, and seasoned with a level of heat that's entirely up to you. From the curious to the courageous, we have a spice level that tells your story. This isn't just a recipe. It's our identity.

    The Vision

Today, Pili Pili Fried Chicken stands as a pioneer: one of Zanzibar's first homegrown fast-casual brands, proudly East African and unapologetically bold. With our flagship in the heart of Stone Town, we are on a mission to share our flavor with the world. See the menu or find our Stone Town store. We are more than a restaurant. We are a declaration that the future of food is being born right here.

THIS IS MORE THAN CHICKEN. THIS IS CULTURE ON A PLATE.
